Dusty asks: Does Chow Yun-Fat actually smoke? I see him in a lot of films smoking but not too many pictures. Thanks a bunch!
Sent January 2004

Dim says:

Hi Dusty,

Chow Yun Fat has been a smoker in his life. As a young man, there are pictures of him smoking in interviews and in informal situations. He has admitted to smoking in the past.

From what I have been able to gather, as part of a health regimen he has taken up in later years, he is either quitting smoking, or trying to at least. There have been some articles printed in which he mentions trying to give up that habit. Whether or not he's been totally successful, I cannot say. I am passing your question on to others associated with the website to see if they have any further information. I'll get back to you if I learn more.

Sincerely,
Dim

Figster says:

I believe CYF was successful in quitting the habit. The last incident where I read he mentioned smoking (Mark Wahlberg giving him cigarettes to Jasmine’s dismay) was during the filming of "The Corruptor". Never seen any candid pics of him smoking the last couple of years!

bhati_boy asks: In the film "The Replacement Killers", when the 2 new replacements arrive at the airport - what song is being played???
Sent December 2003

Dim says:

Hi there,

I have been trying to find out the answer to this question ever since you asked it. The song has to be one of these three:

"Rocco" written by Richard Fearless and Steve Hellier performed by "Death in Vegas", courtesy of Tme Bomb Recordings/Deconstruction Limited

or

"Boom Boom Caw" written by Regan Hagar, Shawn Smith, Stone Gossard, Jeremy Toback, Kevin Gardner an Robert Lee Redwine Jr. Performed by Brad, courtesy of Epic Records By arrangement with Sony Music licensing

or

"33" Written by Jerrad Shain, Wes Geer and Ben Vaught, performed by (hed)pe Courtesy of Jive records.

I think it may be the last of the songs listed here: "33". I'm unable to determine exactly which of the three it is, this info is from the presskit music credits, which listall the music used by agreement in the film. I am able to account by familiarity with the other songs, which of eight technopop songs it isn't! For what its worth, here's a list of the songs I know it isn't in order listed in the presskit as order of use in the film.

"Keep Hope Alive" by Crystal Method is the song used over the opening gun battle in the nightclub and is currently used as the theme song for the tv program "Third Watch"; "Jaan" by Talvin Singh, featuriing Amar,is the haunting vocal/music playing over John Lee's walking through "Chinatown" on his way to pick up his next assignment from Wei's man; "Makes Me Wanna Die" performed by Tricky has been mixed with "To the Listeners" performed by Eric B & Rakin and plays as one unit when Meg is introduced in her apartment. The three possibles are next in order of appearance, followed by "Escape from the City of Angels" performed by Ithaka, which plays over John and Meg's jaunt to Loco's hangout to get weapons and a vehicle.

About the only way to know for sure is to watch the film with music credits in hand and try to match them as they are listed in order of use, more or less.

The music used by agreement in the film is pretty much out of print, a few can still be found on albums by the individual artists.

Hope this rather late and rambling answer helps a bit. Sorry I took so long to respond, and even then to give a less than complete answer.

Yours,
Dim

Amj2k asks: Do you know who did Mark Gor's sunglasses?
Sent 7 October 2003

Dim says:

Alain Delon sunglasses

It's Alain Delon brand. After the release of "A Better Tomorrow", the sunglasses which character Mark wore sold out after one week of sale. The gold-rimmed Alain Delon sunglasses was so popular at the time that even Alain Delon himself sent Chow Yun-Fat a note thanking him for helping to boost the sales.

For more information, visit Alain Delon's website or click here to go directly to the products page.

Sammi asks: "Boxers or briefs?"

Dim says:

Ah, the eternal question. I'm thinking now of CYF air conducting in boxer shorts in "Eighth Happiness", dancing around in what were they, heart decorated boxers? Yum. But then there is "Why Me?", which aside from a masterful performance by Kent Cheng, is notable for being one of the few roles in which CYF can be seen prancing around in jockey shorts. LOVELY view. But then again, there is "City On Fire", where he's wearing neither....nothing at all....but a smile..... .........uh where was I? Boxers or briefs??? Why not the third alternative??? hubba hubba..... ;-D---- (drooling)

Sum says:

Hhhmmm… Boxers or briefs? I like to think of Chow Yun-Fat as a man of style and class--confident, sophisticated, sexy. I think he's a 'boxer briefs' man. You know what I'm talking about, the length of boxers, but snug fit of briefs. Never seen/heard of them? Just check out CYF's co-star Mark Wahlberg (The Corruptor) in his boxer briefs in the famous Calvin Klein underwear ads, you'll see what I'm talking about!
