Introduction:

Gravity. The laws of physics. Four seasons. 365 days. Evolution - the universe is easy to figure out; it's the individuals that inhabit the world - the nonconformists that defy, dictates, the iconoclasts that cling to independent thought, the radicals that refuse adherence - who give us pause. They are what legends are made of: personalities of power, prestige, controversy, riches and infamy. They march to the beat of their own drum, follow the plot of their own making. And at the same time they defy classification and are much more than an introduction. Ladies and gentlemen, meet our Mavericks.

Chow Yun-Fat

A Better Tomorrow garnered Chow Yun-Fat a Hong Kong Best Actor Academy Award, broke box-office records in every Asian market, and started a fashion phenomenon; men all over Hong Kong imitated his trenchcoat and sunglasses. Born into a farming family, Chow Yun-Fat lived in a house with no electricity until his family moved to Hong Kong. There he would help support the household by working as a taxi driver, a bell boy and a courier. He was part of Mao's Cultural Revolution in the 60s and only discovered his talent for drama after auditioning at TVB. Hong Kong's biggest television studio. An action star with surprisingly no formal martial arts training, he has completed over 70 movies inclusing Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon (2000) and Anna and the King (1999), proving him an actor that defies category and cementing him as an international star.
